The rupee closed 4 paise higher at 84.69 against the US dollar.
The Sensex closed 56.74 points or 0.07 per cent lower at 81,709.12, and the Nifty closed 30.60 points or 0.12 per cent lower at 24,677.80. At the time of closing, 2298 stocks advanced, 1529 declined and 98 stocks remained unchanged.
