Nigeria intends to stop importing $6 billion worth of textiles from China and India each year.

Nigeria plans to end annual textile imports worth $6 billion from China and India, and revive the domestic textile industry and its value chains, apart from promoting ‘Made in Nigeria’ products, according to Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment John Enoh.

The minister, who was recently on a three-day tour of industries in Lagos and Ogun state, said the government’s key agenda includes economic growth through manufacturing and job creation.

“The Benin Republic has a flourishing textile garment industry, and their target is the Nigerian market,” he was quoted as saying by domestic media reports.
