According to the report, the cotton production in India in the year 2019-20 was 28.5 million cotton bales which decreased to 27.6 million bales in 2020-21 and in 2021-22 this figure decreased to just 26. million cotton bales. According to experts, the reason for the reduction in production in such a large quantity is due to the weather and failure to protect the cotton crop from diseases and farmers are not able to make them aware.Increase in domestic consumptionAccording to the report, there has been a decrease in production, but in these three years, there has been a steady increase in domestic use i.e. domestic consumption. The consumption which was 20.5 million in 2019-20 has reached 26 million bales in 2021-22 and 2022-23. While the increase in consumption is a positive sign for the industry, the decline in production to such an extent is a matter of concern for the government and top officials. Due to low production, India's closing stock has also decreased significantly in these three years. The closing stock in 2019-20 was 15.68 million cotton bales while in 2020-21 it decreased to 11.94 million cotton bales and in 2021-22 it has been recorded only 8.34 million cotton bales.The good thing is that there has been a tremendous jump in export figures in these three years. India's cotton exports stood at 3.2 million bales in 2019-20, which increased sharply to 6.19 million bales in 2020-21 and is at 5.2 million bales in 2021-22.

According to the USDA report, China's cotton exports have decreased continuously in the last three years. If we look at the figures, in 2019-20, where 0.16 million cotton bales were exported by China, in 2020-21 it came down to only 0.01 million. However, this figure has slightly improved in the current year 2021-22 and now it has reached 0.08 million bales. But, still cotton exports have come down to half as compared to 2019. One of the many reasons for the decrease in exports is also believed that after the Corona period, many countries had stopped doing business from China, especially imports, so there has been a decrease in China export figures.Increase in domestic use is also a reasonOne of the reasons for the decline in cotton exports in China is that the domestic consumption of cotton has increased here. The domestic use of cotton in China was 33 million bales in 2019-20, it increased to 40 million bales in 2020-21 and 39 million bales in 2021-22. On the other hand, if we talk about cotton production, the cotton production in China was 27.25 million bales in the year 2019-20, which increased to 29.5 million in 20-21 and again to 27 million in 2021-22.
