Cotton crop is down a whopping 34 per cent this year from 7.44 million bales last year, mainly due to devastating summer floods in Sindh and southern Punjab, where this industrial crop is mostly grown. After touching a high of 11.1 million bales in 2004-05, the economy is facing several challenges due to a steady decline in production over the past few decades.
