They oversaw the auction process and ensured that farmers received a fair price.
Meanwhile, it was decided to keep the market closed on Friday in light of the potential impact of Cyclone 'Arnab'. According to officials, there was no immediate threat from the cyclone to the region; however, buyers and cotton mill owners had requested a holiday on Friday, expressing concerns that the cyclone might disrupt procurement operations. Higher authorities were informed of this request.
The market already observes a weekly holiday on Saturdays and Sundays. The decision to remain closed on Friday was taken to spare farmers from potential weather-related difficulties.
Market Chairperson Kolluri Swapna Sadanandam, Vice-Chairperson Satya Reddy, and the Market Secretary have urged farmers to bring their cotton produce to the market on Monday. He stated that rain or moisture in the weather could increase the moisture content in the cotton, which might affect its quality and cause difficulties for farmers during the sale.
