This evening, the rupee gained 6 paise against the dollar, closing at Rs 85.02.
At the close, the Sensex was down 1,176.46 points or 1.49 per cent at 78,041.59, and the Nifty was down 364.2 points or 1.52 per cent at 23,587.50. About 963 stocks advanced, 2859 declined and 95 stocks remained unchanged.
