The Indian rupee closed at 86.55 per dollar on Thursday, 19 paise less than its closing price of 86.36 on Wednesday.
At close, the Sensex was up 318.74 points or 0.42 percent at 77,042.82, and the Nifty was up 98.60 points or 0.42 percent at 23,311.80. About 2669 shares advanced, 1132 shares declined, and 101 shares unchanged.
