The Indian rupee on monday lower 38 paise to close at 88.24 per dollar, while it opened at 87.86 in the morning.
At close, the Sensex was up 566.96 points or 0.67 percent at 84,778.84, and the Nifty was up 170.9 points or 0.66 percent at 25,966.05. About 1925 shares advanced, 1994 shares declined, and 155 shares unchanged.
