After closing at 85.64 on Wednesday, the Indian rupee fell 9 paise to settle at 85.75 on Thursday against the US dollar.
The Sensex rose 1,405.77 points or 1.79 per cent to close at 79,913.18 and the Nifty rose 447.30 points or 1.88 per cent to close at 24,190.20. About 2109 stocks advanced, 1347 declined and 84 stocks remained unchanged.
