Tonight, the rupee gained 8 paise against the dollar, ending the session at Rs 83.38.
At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 79,032.73, down 210.45 points or 0.27%. It touched a new high of 79,671.58 during the day. The NSE's 50-share index Nifty rose 33.90 points or 0.14% to close at 24,010.60. It also made a new all-time high of 24,174 during the day.
