This evening, the rupee gained 11 paise to end higher against the dollar.
At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 79,243.18, up 568.93 points or 0.72%. It touched a new high of 79,396.03 during the day. The NSE's 50-share index Nifty closed at 24,044.50, up 175.70 points or 0.74%. It also made a new all-time high of 24,087.45 during the day.
