The rupee closed 1 paisa lower at 83.98 against the US dollar this evening.
At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex fell 151.48 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 82,201.16. The NSE's 50-share index, Nifty, fell 53.60 points or 0.21 per cent to close at 25,145.10.
