The rupee closed 5 paise lower at 83.97 against the US dollar this evening.
At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 82,555.44, down 4.41 points or 0.0053 per cent. The NSE's 50-share index, Nifty, closed at 25,279.85, up 1.15 points or 0.0046 per cent.
