At the close of the market, the Sensex rose by 638.12 points or 0.77 percent to 85,567.48, and the Nifty gained 206 points or 0.79 percent to close at 26,172.40. Approximately 2,601 shares advanced, 1,363 declined, and 163 remained unchanged.
