The Indian rupee held steady at 95.21 against the US dollar on Friday, unchanged from its opening level.
At the close, the Sensex added 261.79 points, or 0.34 percent, to finish at 77,763.91, and the Nifty rose 95.15 points, or 0.39 percent, to 24,270.85. Market breadth remained positive, with advances outnumbering declines.
