The Indian rupee lower 03 paise to close at 88.69 per dollar on Monday, compared to its opening price of 88.66 in the morning.
At the close, the Sensex rose 319.07 points or 0.38 percent to 83,535.35 and the Nifty advanced 82.00 points or 0.32 percent to 25,574.30. Around 1787 shares advanced, 2183 shares declined and 132 shares remained unchanged.
