The rupee fell 6 paise versus the dollar to close at Rs 86.61 this evening
At the close, the Sensex was down 423.49 points, or 0.55 percent, at 76,619.33, and the Nifty was down 108.60 points, or 0.47 percent, at 23,203.20. About 1975 stocks advanced, 1797 stocks declined and 116 stocks were unchanged.
