The Indian rupee closed at 86.58 per dollar on Monday, down 61 paise from Friday's close of 85.97.
At the close, the Sensex was down 1,048.90 points or 1.36 per cent at 76,330.01, and the Nifty was down 345.55 points or 1.47 per cent at 23,085.95. About 533 stocks advanced, 3414 declined and 131 stocks remained unchanged.
