The Indian rupee on friday lower 73 paise to close at 89.40 per dollar, while it opened at 88.67 in the morning.
At close, the Sensex was down 400.76 points or 0.47 percent at 85,231.92, and the Nifty was down 124 points or 0.47 percent at 26,068.15. About 1113 shares advanced, 2711 shares declined, and 131 shares unchanged.
