Imports of textiles and apparel in the US are increasing rapidly. There has been an increase of 31.59 percent in the last 5 months i.e. between January and May. In May 2021, it was a turnover of $41.688 billion, while in May 2022, it has increased to $54.859 billion. China is leading the way with 27.01 percent of the largest share of suppliers in this increase in imports. It is followed by Vietnam with 13.74 percent.
In 2020 the situation was opposite
According to the Shippers Report released by the US Department of Commerce, non-apparel imports were valued at $13.920 billion between January and May 2022, while apparel imports were valued at $40.939 billion. Decrease in imports from Turkey
Among the top 10 US suppliers segment-wise, Indonesia and Bangladesh grew by 59.75 and 59.06 percent year-on-year respectively. While imports from Pakistan have increased at the rate of 56.49 percent and from India at 55.06 percent. Apart from this, there has been an increase in imports from Honduras, Cambodia, Vietnam, Italy. On the other hand, imports from Turkey have decreased by 9.38 percent.
