Big Relief for Exporters as Cabinet Approves ₹20,000 Crore Credit Guarantee Scheme
In a major relief for Indian exporters hit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff measures, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved a significant support initiative — the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Exporters (CGSE).
The ₹20,000 crore scheme aims to ease credit access for exporters impacted by the punitive duties imposed by the U.S., providing them with much-needed liquidity and stability.
Announcing the decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme will be implemented through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited (NCGTC) under the supervision of the Department of Financial Services (DFS).
“The CGSE will offer 100% loan guarantee coverage to Member Lending Institutions (MLIs), enabling them to extend additional credit facilities up to ₹20,000 crore to eligible exporters, including MSMEs,” Vaishnaw stated.
A Management Committee, headed by the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, will oversee the implementation and monitor the progress of the scheme to ensure timely support to the exporting community.
