This evening, the rupee held steady at 83.96 against the US dollar
At the close of trading, the BSE Sensex fell 581.79 points or 0.73 per cent to close at 78,886.22. The NSE's 50-share index, Nifty, fell 180.50 points or 0.74 per cent to close at 24,117.00.
