Cotton sowing started in Punjab
In order to save the crop from the menace of pink bollwormand get good yield, farmers in Punjab started sowing of cotton early.
Cotton sowing has been started in Punjab for the Kharifseason of 2022-23. At present, more than 2500 hectares of area has been sown.It is expected that sowing will pick up in the coming 10 days. Two main reasonsare being given for early sowing. The first reason is that the harvesting ofwheat and mustard crops is almost complete due to the high heat reading and thefarmers have started paying attention to the sowing of cotton and the secondreason is the inter-state advisory committee on cotton to the farmers fromApril 15 to 15. To be encouraged to complete sowing of May Tabak cotton. Infact, last year a large part of the cotton crop was infected with pink bollwormdisease, the committee has concluded that if the sowing is completed on time,the crop will be saved from this infection.

Farmers have benefited well this season due to the increasein cotton prices. This is the reason that this time the farmer is very excitedfor cotton cultivation. As a result, this time the area under cotton isincreasing in almost every state. For the Kharif season 2022-23 in Punjab, a targethas been set to increase the area under cotton by 23 percent to 4 lakhhectares. Out of the seven main cotton districts of Punjab, Fazilka has thehighest share of 1600 hectares, Bathinda 310 hectares, Mansa 300 hectares andMuktsar 153 hectares.
The weather is favorable for farming
Officials of Punjab's Agriculture and Irrigation Departmentsaid that canal water has been started in major districts for cotton crop.Farmers are now demanding power supply to irrigate with tube well water so thatthey can complete the sowing on time. According to agricultural experts, thecurrent season is completely favorable for sowing of cotton. Hardeep Kumar, acotton farmer from Mansa district of Punjab told that my family has beencultivating cotton for the last 38 years. We cultivate on 35 acres. For thisseason we have started sowing. This time the prices have been good, attractedby them, some new farmers are also turning to cotton cultivation.
